The collection is a dynamic body of work focused on Czech and Slovak art from the early 20th century to the present, with a particular emphasis on works produced after 1980. Another significant component is European figurative painting post-2000. Comprising thousands of works by hundreds of artists, the collection is regularly involved in major exhibition projects.

Turn of the Century & the Czech Interwar Scene

An integral part of our culture and the development of 20th-century art history. Within the collection, this segment serves as a remarkable developmental record of the stages and movements that followed. While not extensive in terms of the number of works, this part of the collection seeks to accumulate essential examples from the very beginning of the 20th century and Czech interwar Modernism.

Geometry and Constructivism of the 1960s–1980s

Non-figurative, abstract, and geometric works from the last third of the 20th century are now considered a fundamental and inseparable part of our post-war art scene—a movement that, alongside Informel, defined the late 1960s. It established a wide range of leading artists who shaped and defined this direction for the next two to three decades. Emphasis is placed, among others, on the works and members of the Klub konkrétistů (Concretists' Club) from 1967–1971, though this section of the collection extends its focus through the end of the 1980s.

Czech Painting of the Late 1980s

This is a remarkable and increasingly emphasized period of the domestic post-war scene. The unprecedented surge of the then-young generation of painters—and the increasingly bold and in many ways novel expression of these artists—is becoming a sought-after and respected part of the evolution of the Czech art scene. These paintings reflected the need and desire for change brought about by the events of November 1989. Generally, the 1980s are regarded as a period that gave rise to a number of pivotal figures across the entire artistic spectrum of what was then Czechoslovakia.

Czech Art After 1989

The most extensive part of the collection is dedicated to Czech art after 1989. This stage continuously maps the evolution of the Czech scene on an ongoing and permanent basis. It functions as an open platform that is not limited by technique or medium. As with every individual sub-collection within the whole, the goal is not a broad accumulation of works, but rather to curate a selection and refine the themes already represented.

International Figurative Painting After 2000

Developed since 2011, this part of the collection contains approximately 200 artworks. Its focal point is painting, with the primary objective being the contextualization of international painting within the domestic art scene. The focus is mainly on post-2000 painting, highlighting traditional centers of European painting of recent years, such as Leipzig, Cluj, Berlin, and Great Britain, represented by artists such as Adrian Ghenie, Matthias Weischer, Daniel Richter, and Jonathan Wateridge.

Video Art

Video art is also an integral part of the collection. This essential segment has been built up primarily over the last five years. It reflects remarkable projects by prominent artists and art groups, mainly from the Czech environment. The collection systematically monitors current developments in this field and gradually incorporates further pivotal works that, while not necessarily contemporary in origin, have helped shape the history of the medium through their quality and context.
